Thailand : BANGKOK S SKYTRAIN is on expansion spree.

The fast growing Skytrain of Bangkok, Thailand will include an additional transit route of 464 km in the upcoming period. Now overall 28 construction projects are in different stages of development. Some of them are in the preparation phases, while a few are being built now and many have just been finished. The new routes will facilitate extension of the Skytrain s exposure from central Bangkok to adjoining provinces, over and above providing links to the Bangkok-based airports.

Three Skytrain projects have already started operations, together with the airport link Skytrain amid Phayathai and Suvarnabhumi airport, while the rest two accomplished projects include the BTS Skytrain, and the underground Skytrain on Bangseu-Hualamphong route. The overall length of the three extended routes is 79.5 km.

Five Skytrain projects totaling 83 km are being built now. They comprise the red route Skytrain between Bangseu and Talingshan, which will slated to start by 2012; and the blue route Skytrain on Hualamphong-Bangkae corridor. There is also a different Skytrain project due for price auction, the 26-km dark red route Skytrain between Bangseu and Rangsit.

Moreover, procedures are on for four extra Skytrain projects for the current year. The Ministry of Transport and Communications aims to launch four more Skytrain projects for price auction, with an overall length of 54.2 km.

These intended ventures embrace the airport link Skytrain between Don Muang airport and Suvannabhumi airport; and the green route Sky train on Morchit-Saphanmai passage.

There will be six more Skytrain projects for building 100 km link in total in 2013, which includes the pink route between Kaerai and Minburi; the light red route on Banseu-Makkasan route; and the orange route amid Cultural Center and Minburi.

There will be price auction for 62.7 km long four Skytrain projects in 2012, counting the violet route between Bangseu and Ratburana; as well as the orange route amid Jaransanitwong and the Cultural Center.

The Bangkok officials, for past 2014, are mulling over five more Skytrain projects with an overall length of 53.6 km, in order to embrace the red route Skytrain between Hualamphong and Bangbon and amid Bangkae and Putthamonthon.

Skytrain s transit route will have an extra 464 km, if the entire project moves as per planning.
