Thai RCL's First Oceangoing Ship Berths in Iran.
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Thai-listed Regional Container Lines (RCL)'s first oceangoing ship docked at the Iranian port of Shahid Rajayee, unloading its cargo.
"The ship named Diaporos entered Iran's biggest port and its unloading and reloading took less than 22 hours," Director-General of Hormozgan province's Ports and Maritime Organization Ebrahim Aidani said on Sunday.
He explained that the ship which is a 300-meter oceangoing vessel was built in 2011 has now left Iran for Taiwan's Kaohsiung port.
According to Aidani, the record of unloading and reloading 75 containers per hour has been registered for the ship which as he said can be compared with the standards in the world's advanced ports.
Western sanctions against Shahid Rajayee port in Southern Iran were lifted in July 2014.
Since Iran and the world powers clinched a nuclear deal last July, most world states have voiced willingness to develop their trade ties and economic interactions with the country.
Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Trading Amir Hossein Zamaninia said in November that Thailand has voiced its readiness to buy crude oil from Iran after the sanction's removal, saying a joint economic commission between the two countries will be held in the beginning months of 2016.
Following a meeting with Suvit Maesincee, Thai Deputy Minister of Commerce, in Tehran, Zamaninia said that the Thai official voiced Bangkok's readiness to purchase oil cargoes from Iran in the post-sanctions era.
"Thailand's growing need for energy has prompted it to call for Iranian crude oil supplies," said the Iranian official.
He said Thailand can become Iran's gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, adding that during the meeting opportunities for joint investments and ventures by the two countries in the run-up to the Iran-Thailand Joint Economic Commission were discussed.
