Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth: Outreach Program in Islamic Center of Irving.

The Islamic Center of Irving (ICI) was established and registered as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 1991 in Irving, Texas. The city is located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, where it is estimated that there are 100,000 Muslims living.

The Center's goal is to serve the Muslim population by providing a Mosque, which is a place to pray, and an Islamic school to preserve the Muslim kids, Sunday & Summer School, Marriage Services, Funeral Services, Quranic and Arabic Teachings, etc. The ICI has a Social Services Committee to keep strong bonds among members of the Muslim community in Irving. This committee also works together with other Islamic Centers in the Dallas Fort -Worth Metroplex to undertake social programs and to promote unity. The committee will strive--God willing--to hold the rope of God strongly and help the community to be united and steadfast in the face of calamities and difficulties. The committee will work to provide solutions to social problems, to provide financial assistance to the needy, to help community members in home/ apartment locating.

We didn't have a structured program for health activities until the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth Outreach Program approached us in 2008. When they offered this program we were excited to take part. With their help, we could serve our community's health needs in different ways. We are doing health fairs and educational programs in our masjid. At each health fair around 100 patients were screened for diabetes and lipids.

The American Muslim Women Physician Association (AMWPA) has a team there with Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, and made all these health fairs great successes.

The nurses and volunteers from Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, Fort Worth, did a marvelous job. Paulette Golden RN MS is doing heath lectures in our masjid every month, and also they do flu shots for adults and kids every flu season. We greatly appreciate their help and we are very happy to have this program in our masjid. This helps to promote health and to make a healthy environment for our community.

Hoping for continued great success!
