Test your knowledge of Toon wing wizards.
YOU may have noticed Newcastle United have signed a new winger.
Let's all wish Andros Townsend the best of British, and we sincerely hope he performs more effectively than the likes of Messrs Thauvin, Cabella and Obertan have recently.
United have had some great wingers on their books over the decades.
And, indeed, some of the finest players of all time have occupied the "number 7" and "number 11" roles for the top teams and footballing nations.
In recent years, which of us who has watched opposition teams step out on to St James Park hasn't marvelled at the likes of Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham? Or heading back in time, how about John Barnes and Steve Coppell? And who remembers Gordon Hill and the deceptively adept John Robertson who played for Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest? Then there's George Best, the ballplaying genius who was effectively finished as a top-class player by the time he was 27? And, last but not least, Sir Stanley Matthews, the England, Stoke and Blackpool legend who incredibly played at the top level until he was 50.
Of course, out-and-out wingers in 2016 don't have the longest careers and are sometimes "moved inside", much like Ronaldo has done.
But, to mark Townsend's arrival at St James' Park, try our 10-question quiz on players who have at one time operated as Newcastle United "wingers".
