Tesco signs up Tibbett & Britten for nationwide chilled logistics in Czech Republic.
International logistics service provider Tibbett & Britten Gronp plc has won a contract to set up a central warehousing and distribution operation in the Czech Republic for Tesco Stores CR, a.s., part of the leading UK based grocery retailer. The new operation has been established within Tibbett & Brilten's existing chilled and frozen food centre in eastern Prague.
Servicing all Tesco's chilled distribution needs throughout the Czech Republic, the contract covers the provision of storage and store delivery services for milk and milk-based drinks, cream, butter, margarine, cheese and yoghurt. Because of their particular cold chain requirements, these products have until now been delivered direct to store--so the new contract will simplify the supply chain for many Czech suppliers.
The new central chilled facility will operate within the temperature band +4 to +8[degrees]C, and the logistics specialist has recruited 60 additional staff to handle the Tesco business. There will be an initial 1100 different stock lines (SKUs) and anticipated volumes will be around 70.000 pallets a year. Transport to all 19 Tesco stores across the country is being outsourced--under Tibbett & Britten management.
