Sir Terry Wogan has woken up his devoted army of radio listeners for the final time.

The much-loved broadcasting veteran was hosting his final breakfast show on BBC Radio 2, after 27 years in the slot.

Concerned that overnight snowfalls could disrupt his farewell broadcast, Sir Terry stayed over the road from Broadcasting House in London instead of commuting in from Buckinghamshire.

Sir Terry said he was very touched by the responses of his listeners and sounded tearful at times, particularly as he was given a model of a London bus by colleagues.

He said: "I'm surrounded by poems, farewell poems. Something tells me there's a part of you that's glad to see the back of me.

"I wish I could reply to them personally. I wish I knew you all personally because I feel as though we've met."
