Offers 1/16-, 1/8- and 1/4-DIN temperature controllers for heating, cooling, plastic extrusion, scientific instruments and general industrial use. RS232C and RS485 serial interfaces, multiloop KR4 units, and companion RTD and thermocouple indicators are available.



Manufactures rugged spring-loaded bayonet thermocouples, which are suited for measuring plastic processing machinery temperatures at the cross-head, barrel and die. A pipe clamp adaptor can be used to measure pipe wall and bearing temperatures and is manufactured from type 304 stainless steel in 0.187 in. diam. with standard lengths of 36, 48, 72, 96 and 120 in. The instruments are available in ANSI types J, K, T and RTD in SS overbraid, SS flexible tubing, bayonet, immersion and melt-bolt styles with bayonet, T/C compensated plug, NPT or compression-fitting terminations. Flexible thermocouple extensions are available, and other styles, including custom-designs, can be provided.

Company supplies temperature controllers from basic on/off analog controls/meters to full PID microprocessor-based digital-programmable control systems. Custom UL-recognized temperature-control systems from simple 120-v, low-power controllers to multizone 480 v, three-phase, 100-plus kw process control systems are also available. A wide selection of temperature sensors, monitors, controllers and recorders are also distributed by the company.


Manufactures a broad line of thermocouples, RTDs and thermistor probes. Specialty is custom manufacturing and application problem-solving. Among patented probes is the "retractable" plastic melt thermocouple, which allows immersion and withdrawal from the plastic melt-stream during full operation. Also offers bayonet-style, nozzle-type and compression-fitting versions of attachment to plastic injection and extrusion machines.


Designs and manufactures custom temperature monitoring and control instruments. Instruments are typically a component in heat-transfer and similar types of equipment. Custom packaging, control sequencing, and data communication capability are accommodated in most designs. Controls for machine sequencing and moisture monitoring are also available.


Company's Thermopoint noncontact point thermometers are hand-held, precision instruments used for accurate measurement of product and process temperatures. Laser-sighting option facilitates use in dimly lit or hard-to-access interiors. Data outputs on some models allow for direct PC, chart recorder and printer interface.

A line-scanning system, called Thermoprofile, is used for instant inspection, monitoring and control of moving and rotating elements in continuous production processes where temperature distribution range is critical but contact with the product is dangerous or difficult. Designed for continuous, 24-hr operation under hostile conditions, the Thermoprofile can function as a stand-alone monitoring instrument or as part of a closed-loop process control system.


Offers the following instruments:

* Model DPH-2000 is a temperature measuring instrument that has a range from -150 F to +1999 F. It has a fast response time and uses standard industrial type K thermocouple probes. It is a three-digit unit with a resolution of 1|degree~ F and LCD display. Measurements are accurate to |+ or -~0.8% on -35 F to +850 F range; |+ or -~1% of instrument range on all other points. The plastic housing, with its watertight membrane switch, is resistant to most corrosive materials. Optional accessories include four different types of probes: universal, surface, air-gas and hypodermic.

* Model DT-156 thermometer has a range of -50.0 F to +199.9 F with an accuracy of |+ or -~1|degree~ F. It features solid-state design and three individual probes with quick-response sensing elements. Each probe has a 12-ft color-coded lead, permitting the checking of temperatures at points up to 24 ft apart. A color-coded pushbutton selector switch permits selection of the temperature to be checked. An A-B switch gives instantaneous digital reading of the difference between the temperatures being measured by the A probe and B probe. This feature is designed for differential measurements such as inlet/outlet temperatures.

* Model AM-14 is an LCD industrial multimeter with direct temperature reading capability of -40 F to +300 F. Over-range indication, low-battery indication, auto-zeroes on all ranges, reversed-polarity indication, and diode-test range are some of the available features.


Offers noncontact infrared temperature sensors for measuring products such as sheets in thermoforming and extruded materials. Temperatures range from 0 F to 1000 F. Turnkey systems are provided, including controllers, computers, high-level software, and infrared sensors.


Offers its Model AN2402 1/8-DIN panel-mounted temperature controller. Features include front-panel selectable setup, calibration and operation; thermocouple inputs (J, K, T, E, R, S, B, C, N); 1|degree~ or 0.1|degree~ resolution; degree C or F scale; and programmable filter. Options include RS232 serial interface, dual relay setpoints, and analog output with independent scaling. Model AN2406, a 1/8-DIN controller with 1|degree~, 0.1|degree~ and 0.01|degree~ C resolution for 2-, 3- and 4-wire RTD measurements, offers the same options as the AN2402.


Manufactures a complete line of hot-runner and panel temperature controls. Company's IMP controller in 15- and 30-amp configurations is the latest addition to its CMP and SMP controllers, and offers dual display and CompuStep startup. The AIM controller, in combination with the ACM communication module, allows interfacing of up to 99 controllers through a terminal or IBM-compatible computer. The 1/16-DIN AT16 panel controller offers dual display, four configurable outputs, and optional digital communication. Company also offers a plug-in replacement for its BC520 controllers.

New from company: A portable single-zone temperature controller for hot-sprue bushings or single-heater applications up to 15 amps. The compact PIM controller features dual display, fused and grounded circuitry, CompuStep startup, manual and closed-loop control, and power on/off switch. The module, which includes microprocessor PID control and complete diagnostics, operates automatically after setting temperature and turning on the power. CompuStep function provides automatic warm-up, and when complete, the controller switches to CompuCycle, a zero-crossover power drive that delivers smooth, continuous AC power. This reportedly improves response time, reduces thermal fatigue and prolongs power life.


Manufactures a line of hand-held digital thermocouple pyrometers and over 150 different probes, many for sensing hot-melt, mold, barrel, and platen temperatures. Series 396 allows a wide temperature range, is F/C switchable, accurate to |+ or -~1% of the reading, and housed in a rugged ABS plastic housing. Instrument is equipped with sealed membrane switches for maximum reliability. It is run by one to three standard 9-v batteries, each battery giving the unit 500 hr of continuous operating time. All instruments and probes are available in thermocouple types J, K and T.

Probes for plastic applications include a 1/8-in. diam., 4-in.-long needle probe for insertion/immersion, a micro-needle probe with 3/16-in.-long tip for semi-solid molds, and surface probes with ceramic-encased tips and straight or 90|degrees~ angle shafts for molds, barrels, and platens.


Offers a full range of temperature sensors, including the patented Vari-depth sensor, which is adjustable to any immersion depth.

Single-zone and multizone temperature controllers are offered. Manual-tuning and automatic-tuning, full-PID single-zone controllers with a wide range of features and options are available, including digital communications. Digital control on all controllers is standard, though analog control is also available. Controller size options include 1/2-, 1/4-, 1/8- and 1/16-DIN sizes.

Company's Cimac 2 is a 1/2-DIN size multizone controller suitable for extrusion process temperature control. Eight zones of process control are offered. Built-in setpoint programmers enable time/process control.

New from company: Compact MA Series temperature controllers in 1/4-, 1/8- and 1/16-DIN sizes are said to offer a wide range of features at a low price. These include Touch-Tune autotuning; manual sensor offset, which adjusts the measured temperature when it differs from actual process temperature; power-failure memory that saves setpoints if power is lost; and optional internal InstaSet storage of as many as eight sets of recipes. Offers solid-state temperature controllers and digital monitors for either thermocouple or RTD input.

Controllers offer temperature ranges from 0 to 2500 F and accept type T, J, and K thermocouples plus 100-ohm RTDs. Control modes include limit, on/off, time proportioning and current proportioning, plus optional on/off or limit secondary control modes. Primary and secondary outputs include SPDT electro-mechanical relays, solid-state relays rated up to 30 amps, and 4-20 mA. Controllers are available in either 1/4-DIN, NEMA 1, NEMA 4 or OEM styles. A choice of either digital, analog, or deviation meter display of process temperature is also offered.

Temperature monitors are available in 1/8-DIN styles, and display temperatures from 0 to 1999 F. The 4100 Series monitor also includes optional time and temperature limits.


Offers a combination pressure/temperature sensor said to be the only one of its kind in the U.S. It offers IEEE 485 "addressable" serial output (in addition to the basic RS232 digital output), which is said to make possible economical monitoring of multiple machines. In addition, the company's pressure, temperature and combination sensors have the same threads and housings, making them interchangeable.


Manufactures a complete line of electrical current monitoring products. The Current Ring indicators display the operation of electrical heater elements in molding machines. Attached to the wire leading to a heater element, the indicators provide a visual (LED) illumination when electrical current is present and the heater element is operating properly. With a defective (open) heater element no electrical current will flow and the LED will be extinguished. Several types of indicators are available, which provide an indication directly at the current-carrying wire or at a remote location.


Company's latest line of temperature controllers has been specifically designed for use on extruders and mold-temperature controllers that require PID control action on both heating and cooling channels. Model 9900 controller offers manual override operation, which allows molders to continue operation in the event of a sensor failure. Other features, designed to protect unattended equipment from damage due to single- or multiple-loop element failure, include LBA (loop-break-alarm) and Latching Alarm. Retrofitting is made easy and cost-effective with 1/4- and 1/8-DIN custom panel adaptors. All controllers are 1/6-DIN size to facilitate cost-effective control-panel designs by OEMs.


Makes flexible temperature, process and time/temperature standalone controls, which can be fully configured by a temporary computer link-up. A full line of sensors compatible with the controls is offered.


Products offered include Series 2000 microprocessor-based temperature and process controls; ChromaSoft software package; a remote operator interface to multiple Chromalox controllers from a PC; Chromalox 3390 multiple-loop controller; and digital and analog electronic temperature controllers.

A new temperature-control system, the Cincinnati Runnerless Mold Control (CRMC), features simple operation, mega-memory, high-speed electronics, and total self-diagnosis. System provides technical assistance useful to the mold-maker, process engineer, and the molding technician. A completely automatic diagnostic system thoroughly tests and reports the operating reliability of each zone, confirms the wiring of the system, detects and confirms thermocouple malfunctions, reports on all fused locations, and even detects cross-talk (interaction) between heaters, reporting the percentage of effect on adjacent zones.

Color graphics simplify data recognition for operators, and "help" programs instantly answer any question. Errors are listed by fault and affected zone, so that operators can distinguish immediately serious problems from less urgent process problems.


Offers its Mark R noncontact temperature sensor for slim objects. It is primarily used in extrusion and placement of insulation onto conductors, whose temperature it measures. Mark R generates a millivolt output as a function of the target temperature in a nonlinear fashion.


Company's line of Smart Series temperature-control systems includes a wide variety of frame and module sizes and styles to suit a broad variety of applications. Frames accommodate from one to 48 zones of control in both 15- and 30-amp capacities. Control modules are microprocessor-based with multifunctional digital displays. SSM and DSS modules feature digital display of setpoint and process temperature, auto/manual mode selection, and a heater dryout function automatically actuated during system startup. CSS modules provide these same features along with a built-in ammeter and, in conjunction with company's CIM module, the capability to be remotely controlled and monitored via a PC.

Company's mainframes are self-contained, requiring no external relays or contactors, and are offered with or without communications capability. Protective plastic shields, individual cooling fans, circuit-breaker protection and optional current/voltage monitors are also features. Accessories include cables, mold connectors, floor stands, and transformer kits. In addition to the standard Smart Series line, company also provides quotations on special frames and systems to suit specific control or plant requirements.


Offers a line of resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples designed specifically for processing applications. Sensor construction is built to withstand over 900 F. A variety of mounting options are available as well as most European and Japanese design replacements.


Company offers the following:

* MTT900 temperature transducer for nonintrusive measurement of melt temperatures has a response time of 10 millisec, detects highly transient melt temperatures for tighter process control, and resists abrasion from filled materials. Unit withstands pressures to 30,000 psi at up to 800 F.

* Model 1285 digital temperature indicator with microprocessor-based, 1/8-DIN plug-in design; accuracy of |+ or -~0.1%; thermocouple, RTD, mA and strain-gauge inputs; field-programmable ranges and scale; display to |+ or -~19999 counts; and dual-alarm option.

* Model 1330 temperature controller with 1/8-DIN plug-in design, digital display and setpoint, |+ or -~0.3% FS accuracy, upfront adjustment of control parameters, on/off or full PID control, and optional deviation alarms.

* Model 2300 temperature and process controller with microprocessor-based, 1/4-DIN plug-in design, autotune PID, RS232C, RS422, RS485 serial communications, universal programmable inputs, remote and second setpoints, dual-programmable alarms, and heat/cool control mode.


Supplies D-M-E Smart Series microprocessor-based temperature control modules, mainframes and accessories for runnerless molding. All standard D-M-E controls, including dual-display modules and computer interface modules; and supporting accessories such as connectors, cables and terminal boxes are available in many configurations. EMI also offers a companion line of its own voltage controllers in portable or panel-mount configurations and modular voltage control systems. Individual units are available in 5-, 10- or 30-amp ratings, along with 5- and 10-amp plug-in modules for mounting in injection machine panels. Systems are solid-state and available in 2-, 3-, 5- and 10-amp ratings in multiple-station enclosures. Manufactures a line of thermocouples and sensors. Thermocouples are available in all ANSI calibrations (J, K, T, E types) in grounded/ungrounded and exposed junctions. All styles are available in various probe configurations, using nos. 304-316 stainless steel and Inconel (no. 600) sheath materials.


Manufactures a complete line of temperature indicating, controlling, and recording instrumentation, including hand-held digital and analog pyrometers, infrared thermometers, thermocouple sensors, scanners and controllers. All products are quality engineered to ensure accuracy and reliability. Temperature ranges from -280 to +2000 F/C, accuracy of |+ or -~1|degree~ and 0.1|degree~ resolution are standard features. Thermocouple sensors are available for measuring mold surfaces, subsurfaces, liquids, melts, air shots and air, with assured accuracies as close as 1|degree~ and quick response up to 2000 F. Noncontact, hand-held infrared thermometers accurately measure from 0 to 1600 F/C with quick readings, which are displayed to 0.1|degree~ F resolution on a large LCD. Display shows minimum, maximum, difference and average temperature, and high/low audible alarms. Emissivity is fully adjustable. In addition, company produces a full line of specialty and custom sensors.


Designs and manufactures in the U.S. a complete line of temperature controllers. All instruments feature a high degree of configurability and universal power supplies to facilitate implementation by the OEM and end user alike. Controllers incorporate self-tuning algorithms that automatically determine optimal PID parameter values for installation. Algorithm minimizes overshoot of the setpoint when initiated from ambient. Various models of Series 90 controllers and alarm units are designed for cost-conscious applications and are available in 1/16- and 1/8-DIN units.

The 1/8-DIN model 808 features dual displays, two control outputs, alarm output and digital communications. Air, water and oil cooling can be accommodated by the built-in cooling algorithms. An auto/manual station is built in. The full-featured model 818 adds other possibilities, such as analog retransmission and remote input, two alarm outputs, and adaptive tuning.


Provides a line of temperature controllers and indicators. The 1/16-DIN controllers have digital setpoint and feature a choice of on/off or time-proportioning control with 5-amp relay. Inputs include J or K thermocouples or RTD (Pt100 ohm). Models available include a blind controller that is mounted with 1/16-DIN cutout in panel, on DIN rail, or plugged into standard octal socket with plexiglass cover to prevent tampering with setpoint. Model 48M2 has three-digit LED display and mounts into 1/16-DIN panel cutout. Company's 1/4-DIN 96 mm VersaControllers have on/off and proportional control with a wide selection of inputs and outputs, and several models for nonindicating control, analog indication, and digital indication and setting. High- or low-limit alarm with latch function is standard on new 583 and 584 models. Adjustments can be made by opening the door on front panel of units. The 1/8-DIN dual setpoint controller has on/off control for process voltage, current, thermocouple and RTD inputs. Ranges include type J (0 to 1400 F) and type K (0 to 2250 F).

Temperature indicators range from 1/8-DIN for J, K or T thermocouples and RTD inputs, to a 10-point, 1/4-DIN indicator, which monitors up to 10 J, K or T thermocouples.


Offers its Conductor Series, a complete line of microprocessor-based temperature control systems including modules, mainframes, cables, junction boxes, and mobile racks.

Individual modules feature Auto Soft, which allows for gradual heater warmup based on ground-fault leakage current, thus preventing heater failure due to moisture. The Conductor Series features 14 diagnostic error messages to aid troubleshooting the module, thermocouple, or heater. Three alarm indicators alert the operator when the heater is over or under temperature or causing ground fault. Units feature multipurpose LED display, dual-function digital setpoint, and automatic thermocouple fault compensation. Various standard electrical configurations include 240-v AC or 120-v AC, one- or three-phase, and common European 5-wire systems. Fifteen- and 30-amp module outputs are standard. System also can be ordered with data communication capability, using the SPI Communication Protocol, which allows the molder to interface the hot-runner control system directly to similarly equipped injection molding machines. Standard mainframes include 5-slot, 9-slot and 12-slot systems. Large multizone cabinet systems with up to 85 zones have been built.

A self-contained single-zone chassis controller is also offered. Control cables of 10 ft and 20 ft are standard.

Company manufactures a complete line of thermocouples, wire and accessories, and supplies all common ISA types such as J, K, and T, as well as special alloys for applications requiring up to 4200 F temperature range. A complete line of accessories is available, including plugs, jacks and adaptors. All thermocouples are manufactured for use in rugged environments for extended life and service.


Temperature controls include electronic or electromechanical (differential expansion or liquid expansion); indicating with digital (LCD/LED) or analog displays, or nonindicating; miniature or standard size; surface-mount or probe styles; and for normal or hostile environments. Sensors include thermistor and RTD for local or remote sensing.


Offers a full line of thermocouples, RTDs and thermisters. Off-the-shelf delivery of a variety of melt-bolt and spring-loaded designs are available. Accessory products such as lead wire, fittings, and connectors are available.


Manufactures precision temperature-control systems for hot-runner molding. Product line includes a variety of enclosures and controllers that can be configured to meet specific tool requirements. Controllers are available in 7200 w, 240 v; 720 w, 240 v; 3600 w, 120 v; and 300 w, 24 v; all DC varieties. Single-zone systems are available to run heated sprues; up to 128-zone enclosures run the largest multicavity tools. Controls require no user-tuning and are responsive to shear heat and other process disturbances to minimize temperature cycling, resulting in more consistent gate and molded-part quality, and potential cycle-time reduction by allowing lower setpoint temperature without freezing off gates.

Controllers implement a comprehensive set of diagnostics that indicate and protect against heater and wiring faults. Included are open and reversed thermocouple protection; open, shorted, and ground-fault circuit protection; and automatic, adaptive wet-heater bakeout. True RMS amp and volt meters permit modulation of power to be viewed during the mold cycle to diagnose loose heaters or thermocouples, crossed-zone wiring, or to analyze tool performance.

Enclosures meet rugged industrial requirements and comply with NEMA standards. Special enclosures comply with Ford, GM and IBM standards.


Company is the U.S. arm of the Gefran Group, which manufactures configurable controllers and panel meters, and transducers for sensing temperature, pressure, force and position.

SP Series of plastic-melt transducers features a low-volume capillary system to ensure the highest possible thermal stability, while minimizing the risk of process fluid contamination. Features provide accuracy and fast response to temperature changes, while making the transducer less susceptible to flow erosion, and according to the company, capable of lasting up to ten times longer than conventional units.

Models 500 (1/16) and 1000 (1/8) single-loop temperature controllers feature dual LED display for simultaneous viewing of the process and setpoint values. Both units provide relay, logic, or triac control output.

Models 3300 (1/8) and 4300 (1/4) controllers feature a backlit, multifunction LDC display, data acquisition rates of six samples per second, and digital communications capability. Relay, logic, analog or motorized actuator control outputs are available.

Model 1020 two-loop temperature controller is a 1/8-DIN unit with a NEMA-3 splashproof faceplate that accepts two independent inputs. Each channel has its own display and keypad controls.

Models 100, 200, 201 panel meter/alarm units, 1/16- and 1/8-DIN, are fully configurable and take advantage of surface-mount technology for enhanced reliability. Model 201 features a 3 1/2-digit, 14-mm display; Model 100 a 3-digit, 14-mm display; and Model 200 a 3-digit, 20-mm display. Four operational software levels, accessible only by entry codes, are provided.


Company's TT Series loop-powered temperature transmitters provide temperature measurement for building automation and environmental control systems. Units convert temperature to a 4-20 mA current-loop signal using a PRTD (platinum resistance temperature detector). This signal is linear and proportional to the calibrated temperature. Each transmitter is available factory calibrated to any of several standard temperature spans or to any selected range, and in four standard mounting configurations: space, duct, outside air and immersion/thermowell. TT-I-S units are for space (room) temperature sensing and come in an economical plastic enclosure. For duct applications TT-I-D units are designed for air flow and quick response to changes in temperature. The galvanized steel probe is inserted directly into the duct; mounting holes are provided to rigidly support the assembly. For monitoring liquid temperature the TT-I-I stainless-steel immersion sensor can be screwed directly into a pipe fitting or thermowell. For monitoring outside air temperature the TT-I-O/A is available in a weatherproof enclosure with special sensor housing. For OEM applications, TT-I-T (a transmitter module only) is available in standard and custom ranges.


Company's FP13 is a microprocessor-based, multizone temperature controller capable of controlling up to 13 zones. The power and flexibility of the FP13 make it suitable for a wide variety of temperature regulation applications. Full digital PID gives sophisticated control with minimum overshoot and rapid setpoint attainment. Processing time runs at 10 ms/channel. Standard features include: input by thermocouple, PT100; heating/cooling capability; PID control, programmable for each zone; storage of four groups of settings in RAM; error analysis and fault displays; assignable zone numbers; uniform heat-up (all zones heat up according to rate of slowest zone).

Options include the GA13 display unit that selectively indicates temperature, setpoint, T-setpoint, percentage output of all 13 zones; and RS232 serial interface linking to IBM PC, Machine Logic, etc.


Provides three-mode electronic temperature controls, including plug-in, single-channel, microprocessor-based models, plus an entire line of multizone units in compact, panel-mounted, 16- and 32-zone modules. Capacity may be extended to any number of zones by use of remotely mounted auxiliary modules of 30 channels each that operate under the supervision of the panel-mounted unit.

For extrusion applications, both single- and multizone models can use company's patented Duosense system, which uses both a deep- and shallow-well temperature sensors to gain the advantages of faster response and longer life without sacrificing accuracy of deep-well sensing.

Company also offers a complete line of adjustable RTD temperature sensors for extrusion and injection machines.


The HES temperature controller utilizes a patented dual-thermocouple design to maintain precise temperature control in critical production processes. Company reports that it is the only extruder manufacturer providing a patented system that uses two thermocouples in each barrel zone. With one thermocouple located in the heater/cooler and the other at the deepest point of the barrel, corrective heating or cooling action can be taken to bring the inner barrel surface temperature to stability quickly, and is done automatically with no adjustments required. In addition, its recipe feature reduces the amount of scrap manufactured, during startup and grade-change operations.


Industrial Automation & Controls Div. offers the STT 3000 Smart Temperature Transmitter. Its memory contains the look-up tables for all standard thermocouples and resistance bulbs. Selection of the appropriate type via the SFC (Smart Field Communicator) gives the required linearization, minimizing spare-parts requirements. An added feature of the STT 3000 is the reading of highest and lowest inputs, external cold-junction compensation at an isothermal block, and engineering units displayed in degrees C, F or R, plus millivolts and ohms.

The STT 3000 can be installed on a DIN rail or in an explosion-proof housing designed either for surface or 2-in. pipe mounting. Adjustments and diagnostic checks are performed via the SFC from locations remote from the transmitter.


Company offers a line of temperature controllers to complement its hot-runner systems. The controls reportedly require no tuning and are said to be highly responsive to shear heat and other process disturbances, thereby minimizing temperature cycling. An added advantage is said to be potential cycle-time reductions through lower setpoint temperature without the risk of gate freeze-off. The controllers are manufactured for Husky by Gammaflux, Inc.


Supplies closed-loop temperature-control modules rated at 15 amps and 120 or 240 volts with time-proportioned power, automatic soft-start, analog or digital display and housings of 1 to 12 zones. Single-zone housings with 30-amp output working off a standard 15-amp module are also offered. Also available from company:

* Equipment for directly reading hot-melt temperature--DT-2 temperature indicator with LED display and 1/4-DIN housing, and either retrofit hot-melt thermocouple or matched-set injection nozzle with thermocouple through-hole and hot-melt thermocouple.

* Microcom 760 is a microprocessor-based, voltage-proportioning temperature controller, which is PIDD self-tuning and reacts to 1/2-degree change from setpoint, giving precise control for heat-sensitive plastics processing. Other features include digital LED display, membrane data keypad, ground-fault detection, soft-start, thermocouple break protection, F to C switchability, open-load indication and phase-angle firing. It is available in 15 or 30 amps. Single-zone models and multizone panels are available with from 2 to 48 zones of control. Other models, with closed-loop proportional control of one or two zones, are suitable for single-cavity molding.

* STC-10 single-zone, 10-amp model controls bushings, machine nozzles or any single-control application. DTC-10 model provides two zones of control at 10 amps/zone, providing automatic control and soft-start for heater protection.

Company will custom design and build systems to specifications.


Offers two models of analog panel instruments for temperature monitoring and control. Model 370 indicating temperature controller features dual setpoints, 3.5-in. mirrored scale, and relay outputs. A large number of options allow this unit to be easily customized. It may be used as a direct replacement in most equipment.

Model 400 indicating pyrometer features a 4.5-in. mirrored scale, and it may be used with J-, K-, and T-type thermocouples.


(Formerly Luwa Corp.) Company's IMP 2020 Optimizer retrofit controls allow injection molders to custom build their controller by adding optional control packages when they are needed.

The IMP 2020 "C" option adds 15 zones of PID temperature control to the base monitoring system. Each zone has its own preproduction and production setpoints and can have minimum and maximum values set so that alarms are raised automatically if a zone goes outside the optimal temperature. Depending on the severity of the problem, plasticating may be blocked, the affected area shut down, or the molding machine switched out of automatic. The control can sense broken thermocouples and provides manual temperature control until the sensor is repaired.

A 7-day, 24-hr heating schedule provides automatic heating to preproduction temperatures and automatic cool-down according to set times. Pressing a single button brings the machine up to production temperature. Temperatures are displayed on a bar graph that is updated every 2 sec. The graph shows deviations above and below setpoint, with a resolution of 0.1|degree~ F.


Produces a complete line of analog and digital panel instruments and controllers at its Chesterland, Ohio facility. Products include:

* LFE 2000 Series 1/4-DIN temperature and process controllers that are microprocessor-based to allow exceptional flexibility in general applications. Many standard options are available to match controller to specific applications. Special-purpose controllers are available for dual-loop, multiprofile, and zone-control applications. Controllers have custom features to enhance performance, while simplifying operation.

* LFE 4500 Series intelligent 1/8-DIN meters and control meters have 3 1/2- and 4 1/2-digit vacuum-fluorescent displays. Meters are available for current, voltage, process, temperature, or pressure inputs.

* LFE model 4000 gives the operator a clear, simple, and customized view of the production process with easy access to intelligent factory-floor "communicative" devices. The multitasking operating system and colored character-based graphics provide fast notification of alarms and system conditions. A dedicated printer port provides a record of alarm occurrences, acknowledgements, and alarm clearings, along with a time and date stamp. Forty assignable front-panel keys replace hundreds of switches and pushbuttons. The 14-in. CRT is fully protected by a polycarbonate cover and a NEMA-4 rated front panel. The model configuration process allows for adjustment of information and displays presented to the operator as changes occur to equipment, factory layout, and information requirements.

Company also offers analog round, rectangular, and edgewise panel meters; optical and electronic analog meter relays; digital panel meters and meter relays; and analog temperature controllers.


Offers two new hand-held infrared thermometers for thin-film plastics temperatures. The Minolta/Land Portable Cyclops 343 and Cyclops 79 make precise spot-temperature measurements (|+ or -~1% of reading) on thin-film plastics over a measurement range of 30 to 700 F. The battery-powered Cyclops 343 has a narrow-band spectral response centered at 3.43 |micro~m and is designed to make measurements on hydrocarbon polymer films (PE, PP and PVC) of thicknesses down to 0.001 in. Cyclops 79 has a narrow-band spectral response centered at 7.92 |micro~m and makes measurements in polyesters, fluoroplastics, and polyimide films of thicknesses down to 0.001 in.

Additional features include Minolta-focusing reflex optics for accurate target definition; a digital-temperature display in the field of view; a choice of peak hold, valley hold, or continuous operation; and built-in calculating facility to compute the maximum, minimum or mean of a series of readings. Both units can be tripod-mounted and have a BCD output for an optional printer/datalogger. Other options include a digital-to-analog converter and dedicated printer.


Manufactures a line of noncontact infrared sensors that are designed to provide accurate, continuous temperature measurement in a wide variety of manufacturing settings.

Fixed-mounted units have broad temperature ranges from 0 to 3000 F. Response time is from 0.1 millisec to 1.0 sec. Portable units have temperature ranges from -70 to +2000 F and sensitivity from 0.1 to 1.0|degree~ F. Units have a 1-sec response time.


Manufactures a variety of temperature controls, sensors and output devices. Model 1600 Series low-cost, microprocessor-based 1/16-DIN controls are fully programmable to meet varying applications. Optional digital communications and company's Lovelink software provide remote supervision, data logging and alarm for statistical quality control. Other digital indicating controls include the low-cost 1/4-DIN 400 Series and 1/4-DIN 300 Series microprocessor-based controls.

The 49 Series analog controls and indicators feature full-scale indication and outputs to satisfy all applications. The 249 Series is low-cost and has a solid-state LED deviation indicator. In addition, portable controls, hand-held indicators, scr power controllers, solid-state relays and mercury displacement contactors are available.

Sensors include thermocouples and RTD or thermistor probes. Standard and custom-designed sensors, including foreign replacements, are manufactured for fast delivery.

Offers patented ribbon-temperature sensors for measurements in molding and extrusion.

* Series A6A spring-loaded bayonet-style ribbon thermocouples are designed to measure in-wall temperatures of barrels and extruders without errors caused by conduction along the thermocouple stem. True local temperatures in the metal wall can be measured, free of all conduction errors caused by external air drafts, mounting fixtures and metallic protection tubes.

* Series C4 thermocouples measure temperature inside the mold cavity with millisecond response times. One group of thermocouples measures the part temperature in the mold cavity as it is being formed and cured. Another group measures the inside surface temperature of the wall. Both styles are designed to fit into the existing ejector pinhole and serve both as a thermocouple and ejector pin.

* Series C8 thermocouples are designed to measure plastic temperature as it flows through the extruder nozzle. They also have millisecond response times and can operate during continuous or cyclical applications.

Company carries a complete line of conventional temperature sensors, controllers, indicators and accessory items.


Company has developed the AutoProbe to measure the melt temperature across the melt stream. This device is a retractable melt thermocouple, which is motor-driven and has a position-indicating transducer on board.

The motor-driven actuator mounts at the point of measurement and is connected via cable to the controller, which can be remotely mounted in the operator control cabinet. A scan of the melt temperature can be made by connecting the signal cables to an x-y recorder and driving the AutoProbe in or out of the melt stream. An Auto-retract feature keeps the probe out of the melt stream until the temperature is above a minimum adjustable temperature to prevent damage to the probe. The basic unit includes a motor-driven actuator with a J thermocouple, 20-ft control cable, 1/2-DIN control module, and technical manual.


Manufactures the following temperature controls:

* The 1/4-DIN microcomputer-based temperature control features an automatic tuning function. The menu-driven program provides configurable process parameters. A dual, four-digit display allows both process and setpoint temperature visibility at all times. The operator can select the thermocouple input type in either C or F display. A program restart circuit eliminates program lockup due to transient voltage spikes or "brown-out." Parameters entered can be locked in. Self-test capabilities include lamp test and function tests with error messages. Nonvolatile memory retains process parameters when power is off. Controls can be operated manually if sensor fails.

* ETR 8080 1/8-DIN microprocessor-based automatic-tuning temperature control. All control parameters are front-panel configurable. The 1/2-in. dual display allows process and setpoint visibility at all times. Type of input, F or C display, control mode, heating or cooling, are some of the selectable parameters. Two secondary outputs allow both high and low limits or alarm.

* ETR 9080 1/16-DIN microprocessor-based temperature control features an automatic tuning function. No dip switches and no keys are required because all control functions are configurable with front-panel buttons. The unit's software algorithm automatically calculates all PID parameters. The 3 1/2-in. panel depth is reportedly one of the shortest available of any electronic temperature control.


Offers a complete line of temperature controllers and monitors, including thermocouple, RTD and infrared sensors. Controllers can be selected with simple on/off control, PID control, autotuning, event signal generation and ramp/soak programming. Single- and multi-loop controllers are provided as standalone or panel-mounted instruments. Company offers an extended warranty on products and custom engineering for specific applications.


Offers a full line of advanced electronic temperature controllers that feature autotuning PID, high accuracy, host-computer communications capabilities. They are available in the most popular sizes, including 1/4-, 1/8- and 1/16-DIN. Manufactures temperature controllers specifically designed for hot-runner molds or runnerless molding systems. Also supplies thermocouples, integrally constructed torpedoes, hotsprue bushings, heaters and manifolds for hot-runner molds.

Company's temperature controllers contain a patented cooling method, which allows the unit to operate without employing a fan. This reportedly prevents dust, contaminating particles and oil mist from entering the chassis and fouling the circuitry, resulting in extended trouble-free operation.

A newly developed "Failsafe" controller model checks temperatures at two locations of the same heated object and compares any difference in temperature with a preset parameter, preventing accidental and local overheating.


Offers a line of scr-based power controls and contactors to control AC and DC power to regulate electric heating.

Model 11 Series AC contactors, an alternative to electromechanical contactors and mercury relays, are available in single-phase or three-phase versions at all standard voltages to 600-v AC, ranging in size from 10 to 1200 amps/phase. All 11 series contactors are tested for up to 600 operations per minute, and for over 200 million continuous operations without component failure. They are used in conjunction with on/off temperature controllers.

Also available are single-phase and three-phase AC variable-voltage controls for proportional control of electric heat. Available from 10 to 1200 amps/phase, at all standard voltages to 600-v AC, the 18 Series controls come in either phase-angle or zero-fired versions, and are alternatives to variable transformers. Units may be operated manually, or may be equipped to follow an analog milli-amp or DC voltage signal from a temperature controller or PLC. A variety of control options ensure that these controls can be readily adapted to different application requirements.

Company's 36 Series DC power controls accept a single-phase or three-phase AC voltage input and have variable DC output. Available at all standard voltage to 600-v AC, sizes range from 10 to 1200 amps/phase and offer an alternative to rotary motor-generator sets as a DC power source.

The 18A Series thermocouple temperature controllers interface with the 18 or 36 Series proportional controls to provide closed-loop temperature control. Available in either full-scale indication or temperature-deviation versions, 18A controllers can be set up for a variety of temperature ranges and thermocouple types.

Provides modular temperature controllers, which include such features as digital setpoints for accuracy and gold contact points that reportedly stand up better to dirt, corrosion and vibration. After mold temperatures rise and stabilize, the AXC controller automatically switches over to fully automated production control from a fully automated startup procedure, which features a slow-start, ensuring all parameters are functioning within a safe operating area before going into production mode. Other features include: open- or closed-loop current/temperature (PID) control, overcurrent protection for all probes, complete automatic mold diagnostics, complete alarm protection monitoring, control data logging from PC, and printer output of all run and diagnostic modes. The console unit runs up to 96 cavities and employs memory card for instant setup.


Offers a complete line of noncontact infrared thermometers. Instruments are designed to operate in harsh environments from -50 to +6500 F. A variety of model series are offered to match any application requirement: on-line thermometers, portable noncontact thermometers, and low-cost two-wire transmitters. Sensors "see" objects as small as 0.012 in. and can respond within as little as 25 millisec.


Manufactures a complete line of temperature and process controls, ranging from the most basic discrete controls to multizone controls with SPC capabilities. The recently introduced M5E extruder control is reportedly one of the most advanced in its field.

The 500 Series datalogger, data acquisition, process control, software, and complete system products offers both turnkey systems and standalone products. System sizes vary from eight-channel controls to 96-2300 channel plantwide control and quality monitoring systems. The MPC10S ramp-and-soak temperature programmer features autotuning PID control, has 10 ramp-and-soak steps, will repeat profile up to 99 times, and is easy for the operator to use and program. It is housed in a 1/4-DIN panel-mounted cabinet.

Company's MDC10 temperature controller has all the features of the smaller MDC4E but has the added feature of an RS232 interface so that the controller can be driven by a computer. The MDC10 controller is housed in a 1/4-DIN panel-mounted cabinet.
