TellerScan-400 Countertop Check Scanner; Digital Check's Latest Check Scanner Breaks Price/Performance Barrier.

KANSAS CITY, Kan., FutureBank--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1998-- From their Booth No. 651 here at FutureBank 1998, Digital Check Corporation (DCC) today formally introduced the TellerScan-400(TM), a compact, high-speed, duplex countertop check scanner. The scanner is designed to let banks capture image and data from checks at the original point of deposit (branch, teller, ATM, remote) -- which is expected to become a multimillion dollar market. Needing just 6 x 12 inches of space, the scanner can significantly reduce the number of keystrokes, allow bank personnel to concentrate on customer service, while accelerating the processing of checks.

The unique 'horseshoe' transport path scans checks into a two pocket sorter while optimizing space utilization. The scanner can create a bitonal image of both sides of a check at 65 to 70 checks per minute at 200 dpi. Grayscale scanning at 16 or 256 levels of gray is also available. Included is an automatic E-13B or CMC-7 MICR codeline reader, a 100 check feeder with double feed detection, and a two-pocket sorter. Options include a programmable inkjet printer for endorsements, red ink dropout and on-board OCR. The red dropout capability is unique in its ability to deliver two front-sided images -- one without dropout and one with -- to enable better OCR of Giros and remittance coupons, while also delivering a full back side image. Reliability is built into the design with on-board diagnostics, power-on self testing and an ability to diagnose errors remotely over an RS-232 link.

"The TellerScan-400, which is the first in a series of new scanners, is an important element in our overall strategy of offering a complete line of point-of-need scanners designed to meet our check processing customers' requirements," said Tom Anderson, President of Digital Check. "There are no other check scanners on the market today which provide the combination of features, speed, footprint, and price that the TellerScan-400 delivers."

John Gainer, Executive Vice-President at DCC, commented: "We have learned much about bankers requirements from our experiences with our BUIC check scanner. We also did a great deal of market research, listening carefully to what bankers felt they needed in a front office check scanner. The TellerScan-400 was developed specifically to meet those requirements. We feel we now have the fastest and most cost effective scanner for the front-office and branch/teller capture markets."

The TellerScan-400 will be available in May, 1998. Windows 16 and 32 Bit API are available. List price without software is $4,495, with volume discounts available for resellers.
