Tell us if wildlife raids your garden

Do you have uninvited wildlife quests visiting your house or garden? If so, we'd like to hear from you.

Many wild animals--especially deer, coyotes, foxes, opossums, raccoons, and skunks--thrive in decidedly urban settings; seeing a doe and fawn wouldn't be remarkable in Portland, Berkeley, Pasadena, or a host of other Western cities. Even moose rank as pests in some areas, such as Anchorage.

Such a sighting may be thrilling, but it could signal trouble as well. Becoming increasingly common are conflicts between homeowners and wild critters: midnight feasts in garbage cans or in tempting gardens, fights with household pets, or nests in basements and crawl spaces.

Tell us about your wildlife problems and how you deal with them, which wild animals cause you trouble, and what damage they do. Then describe measures you've taken to try to eradicate the animals, protect individual plants, or keep critters out of your yard entirely.

Include both your successes and noble failures--even offbeat ideas--along with any suggestions you have for other homeowners with similar problems.

If possible, send snapshots of your problems and solutions. Please include your daytime telephone number. Write to Urban Wildlife, Sunset Magazine, 80 Willow Rd., Menlo Park, Calif. 94025.
