Tell us all your old memories of Cannings.

IT was 1785 and new firms were opening up every day in the Workshop of the World as the age of Boulton and Watt ushered in the Industrial Revolution.

Among them was a drysalter in Hockley whose modest enterprise was to become one of city's most famous names... W. Canning & Co.

The Great Hampton Street firm would become the country's leading supplier of equipment and materials for the electro-plating and metal-finishing industries.

With a base on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter it would eventually have factories all over the city and thousands of workers.

Were you among them? Because I Remember Cannings is the next in our acclaimed nostalgia series.

If you worked for this famous company then write and tell us all about it.

What was your job? Who did you work with?

This is your chance to add to the growing history of Birmingham.

Because it was companies like Cannings and people like YOU who made the city great.

Write with your story to: I Remember Cannings, Sunday Mercury, 28 Colmore Circus, Birmingham B4 6AZ.

And if you have any photographs we would love to see them.
