Telia's international telegram service to close down.

NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-1 March 2002-Telia's international telegram service to close down (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The Swedish telecommunications group Telia is to wind up its international telegram service, Telia Telegram, on 30 April.

Telia is currently operating the international telegram service under an agreement with the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency and it has received funding for the service's operation from the Swedish ministry of industry, employment and communications.

The Swedish government decided, however, in December 2001 to withdraw the support for the service from the end of April because the amount of telegrams sent has fallen drastically in recent years - last year only 3,600 telegrams were sent out of Sweden.

Telia Lyxtelegram, the group's service that delivers congratulatory and condolence telegrams within Sweden, will continue to be available as before.
