Sweden-based pan-European telecomms company Tele2 AB said on Thursday (14 July) that it had acquired the Spanish telecomms operator Comunitel.

Tele2 said that it had acquired 99.93% of Comunitel shares from ONI Group for EUR257m, on a debt free basis.

At the end of 2004 Comunitel had 76,400 active customers, revenues of EUR174m and an operating profit (EBITDA) of EUR11m.

The acquisition consolidates Tele2's position in Spain as one of the incumbent's main competitors, the company said.
