TelCom Semiconductor Adds Very Low-Power Dual Comparator to Its Linear Building Blocks Family.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1999--

TelCom Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:TLCM) today announced the TC1025, one of a series of very low-power dual low-power linear building block products targeted at low-voltage, single supply applications.

This device contains two comparators, eliminating the need for multiple discrete parts while saving space, lowering supply current, and improving system performance.

The TC1025 has a supply current of 8uA and operation is guaranteed to minimum operating voltage at 1.8V. The device also features rail-to-rail inputs and outputs which allows operation from low supply voltages with large input and output signal swings.

This device combines two comparators in a single package. The input range of the comparators extend beyond both supply voltages by 200mV and the outputs will swing to within several millivolts of the supplies depending on the load current being driven. The low input bias current and offset voltage make this device suitable for high impedance precision applications.

"With their excellent low power consumption and rail-to-rail input voltage range, these dual comparators are an ideal choice for hand-held battery powered devices and instrumentation. The addition of new products to our Linear Building Block family emphasizes TelCom's commitment to continuously offering to our customer base a broad range of state-of-the-art products that will meet their critical design needs," said Patrick Maresca, product marketing manager at TelCom Semiconductor, Inc.

The TC1025 is a available in a small MSOP package, that consumes only half the space of an SOIC package. Also packaged in SOIC and DIP packages, this device is ideal for applications requiring small size and low power.

These products are well suited for a wide variety of applications ranging from power management circuits in battery operated systems such as cellular/PCS phones, pagers, PDAs, DVDs, and multi-meters. One thousand piece pricing for the TC1025 starts at $1.20. The data sheet can be accessed at the company's web site at .

TelCom's family of Linear Building Blocks replaces several different discrete device types in one low power, low voltage space saving package. These high performance products have the flexibility of multiple discrete packages with the benefit of higher integration.

Other devices in the Linear Building Block family include various combinations of op amps, comparators (with and without programmable hysteresis), and voltage references -- some products also feature a shutdown mode. All devices in this family will be available in 8-pin MSOP, SOIC, and DIP; 5-pin SOT-23; 6-pin SOT-23; and 16-pin QSOP, SOIC, and DIP packages.

TelCom Semiconductor, Inc. is a worldwide manufacturer of linear and mixed-signal devices dedicated to solving problems over a broad spectrum of customer applications. TelCom's products include data acquisition, power management, interface, and thermal sensing integrated circuits. Company and product information can be accessed on the company's web site at
