Teja and RadiSys deliver 10 Gbps packet processing apps for carrier-class networking devices.

Teja Technologies Inc., a supplier of embedded networking and communications software for multi-core processor architectures, today announced that its award-winning software platform for the Intel network processor (NPU) product line, Teja NP, will support and interoperate with RadiSys' Promentum ATCA-7010 10 Gbps Packet Processing Module.

RadiSys' latest addition to its family of AdvancedTCA-compliant products features dual Intel IXP28xx network processors and is designed to address 10 Gbps wirespeed packet processing in network applications that demand high bandwidth throughput such as security gateways, GGSN, Broadband-Remote Access Servers, edge routers and session controllers. As a result of its alliance with Teja, OEMs using RadiSys' board and Teja NP will be able to leverage applications developed with the familiar C-based standard to design, test and ship carrier-class networking products that deliver 10 Gbps wirespeed performance in considerably less time than methods based on proprietary languages.

"While Telecommunications OEMs are looking to their design partners to provide solutions to speed development, our experience has shown that they do not want to learn new complicated techniques--they want to hit the ground running with applications that quickly deliver performance while leveraging their engineering teams' existing expertise," stated David Stepner, Teja Technologies' president and CEO. "The combination of RadiSys' Promentum ATCA-7010 and Teja NP software provides these OEMs with a powerful preintegrated platform that gives developers applications and tools based on the familiar C standard to customize and optimize the performance of their designs in the shortest amount of time."

Teja's unique approach to embedded networking applications greatly simplifies development of software for the parallel, multiprocessing architecture of Intel network processors. Teja NP consists of an Application Development Environment, Network Processing Operating System (NPOS), and a library of foundation application building blocks including TCP Termination, IPv4 Forwarding, IPv6 Forwarding, NAT, DiffServ QoS, ATM and Security.

"Teja's broad set of high-performance applications provide an ideal match to the packet processing capability our new Promentum ATCA-7010 delivers to telecom equipment manufacturers," stated Todd Etchieson, senior director for RadiSys. "The ATCA-7010 marks the third generation of network processor-based products on which RadiSys has collaborated with Teja."

Using Teja NP, developers define a complete system's application logic in a C-based model that is independent of the specific Intel network processor and board configuration. These modular logic components are then assigned to the hardware elements on a specific target, resulting in the automatic generation of optimized production code for the target system. Reusing applications across multiple products or across generations of network processors simply requires reassigning the application logic to the resources of the new target chip or board, whereas alternate methods would typically require a manual code rewrite.

Teja NP also facilitates integration of third-party hardware and software components, such as coprocessors and protocol stacks that complement Intel network processors. The resulting benefits of using Teja NP include accelerated time-to-market, the reduction of engineering risk and, most importantly, reliable, high-performance products that provide OEMs with a first-to-market advantage.

Teja NP support for the RadiSys Promentum ATCA-7010 board is available now. A demonstration/evaluation copy of Teja NP is currently shipping with Intel's distribution of the Intel IXA SDK 4.0. Teja is a RadiSys Alliance Program member and an Associate member of the Intel Communications Alliance (ICA).
