Teenager Shannon named as Cadet of the Year.

TEENAGER Shannon Griffin has been given a top award for her work with the St John Ambulance.

The 17-year-old of Exhall, pictured, is a member of the Stockingford unit and has been named as Warwickshire's St John Ambulance Cadet of the Year.

Shannon was chosen for the award for her commitment in providing first aid at various events in 2011 and for completing the charity's Grand Prior award, which marks three years of hard work studying 24 different subjects.

Shannon said: "It's a great honour and I am delighted to be representing all the other cadets in Warwickshire at regional and national level. I firmly believe that anyone, whatever age, can learn first aid and we would like to see more young people learning skills that can save a life."

Shannon will now represent her fellow cadets at events throughout Warwickshire and will try to encourage more young people to learn first aid.
