Teenager's debut sees him make an impact.
ONLY 34 overs were possible due to rain on the first day at Swansea, but there was enough time for Glamorgan teenager Lukas Carey to make an immediate impression on his first-class debut. Northants ended the day on 108 for four with 19-year-old Carey, a product of the Glamorgan Academy, taking three for 37 from 10 overs.
He opened the bowling in the absence of Michael Hogan, who along with first-team regulars Graham Wagg and Craig Meschede were rested after playing in almost every game this season.
With his 11th delivery Carey had the prolific Northants opener Ben Duckett caught at cover, then 11 balls later dismissed Shaun Terry who was leg before playing across the line.
Rob Keogh became Carey's third victim when he edged to third slip and when Rob Newton was caught by wicketkeeper Mark Wallace - wafting at one from Tim Van Der Gugten - Northants were 38 for four and in some trouble with four of their top-order batsmen unavailable through injury.
On a cloudy day, and on a pitch that had been covered for two days, Northants might have regretted their decision to bat first as the Glamorgan seamers obtained plenty of movement to trouble the batsmen.
Laurie Evans, the Warwickshire batsman playing his first game on loan for Northants and the 501st player to represent the county, and David Murphy then effected a partial recovery, sharing an unbroken partnership of 70 for the fifth wicket, with Evans unbeaten on 42 at the close and Murphy on 29.
Carey was understandably delighted with his performance, saying: "I was very excited when I was told I was playing.
"I was very nervous in the first over but I soon got over that when I took the first wicket.
"The ball is swinging and nibbling and hopefully we can take a few more tomorrow morning."
