Byline: JAMES PEARCE

TALENTED Liver pool Harriers duo Jack Meredith and Katarina Thompson both struck gold at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

The teenagers are two of Britain's hottest prospects and they underlined their potential with impressive performances at the English Institute of Sport.

Meredith bettered his own championhip best performance which he set last year as he destroyed the field in the final of the under-20 60m hurdles.

The 17-year-old clocked 7.87secs to win by nearly half a second and made it a double by clinching the senior 60m hurdles title in 8.01.

Meredith, who took silver in the 110m hurdles at last year's World Youth Championships, completed a memorable meeting by adding a third medal with bronze in the under-20 60m final in 7.05.

World Youth heptathlon champion Thompson also smashed her own championship best performance from last year to take gold in the under-20 long jump.

Thompson also claimed silver in the under-20 60m hurdles final in 8.85secs and just missed out on bronze in the under-20 60metres final.
