Teenage cadet enjoys a rewarding day out at the palace.

A CADET from Birmingham enjoyed a day out at Buckingham Palace after completing a special award.

St John Ambulance cadet Sean Ruddock, from Sutton Coldfield, represented the charity at a reception hosted by The Princess Royal.

The 17-year-old was picked to attend the event having completed the Grand Prior Award, the highest award a St John Ambuslance cadet can achieve.

The achievement marks at least three years of studying 24 different subjects, from using social media and working in the community, to outdoor pursuits and first aid. Sean, currently studying at Birmingham Metropolitan College, is a member of the Bracebridge Division, which meets at Sutton Coldfield Fire Station on Friday evenings.
