Tease your brain.

It takes this hopper 10 seconds to get from the 10-inch mark* to the 5-inch mark. How long will it take for it to hop from the 5-inch mark to the 1-inch mark?

The answer is 8 seconds. Since it takes 10 seconds for the insect to travel 5 inches (between the 10-inch and 5-inch marks), it takes two seconds for it to travel each inch. That means, for it to travel four more inches--from the 5-inch to the 1-inch mark--the traveltime should be: 4 inches multiplied by 2 seconds for every inch, equaling 8 seconds.
