Tears as Babs returns.

EASTENDERS' battle-axe Barbara Windsor was in tears when she returned to film her on-screen daughter's wedding.

The 67-year-old, who plays landlady Peggy Mitchell, was forced to quit the BBC soap 18 months ago when she fell ill.

The former Carry On star was laid low with the energy-sapping Epstein-Barr virus. But she recovered enough to make a short return for Sam Mitchell's wedding to gangster Andy.

Barbara said: 'It was lovely seeing all the people I'd known for years.

'It was like being the new girl all over again. I didn't have to say anything on my first scene, I just had to shed a tear.'

Barbara was nursed through her illness by her husband Scott, 40.

She said: 'If it wasn't for Scott, I wouldn't be here now.'
