Team effort brings in pounds 22,400 for patients.

A DEDICATED group of friends have added another pounds 6,000 to the amount they have raised to help cancer patients at Coventry's Walsgrave Hospital.

The group's seventh annual autumn sale for the radiotherapy and oncology centre raised a record amount. It will buy two pumps to administer chemotherapy drugs in a new suite for day patients.

Coventry couple Freda and Roland Todd, and friends Jean Craig and June Bottomley, presented the cheque to consultant radiotherapist Dr Bob Grieve.

Mrs Todd said: ''We'd like to thank all those who supported us.''

The quartet from Coventry - who call themselves the Team of Four - have raised more than pounds 22,400 for the unit since they started fund-raising.

They spend months collecting and making crafts and clothes to sell on a stall, which they hold for a week every year at the unit.

Dr Grieve said they deserved a medal for their work, adding: ''They're just extraordinary. It's impossible to keep finding new ways of saying thank you.''
