Team Irfon fundraising tops PS115k.

A FATHER-OF-FIVE undergoing major surgery after his cancer returned is "proud" that his charity fundraising campaign has now reached more than PS115,000.

Since he was diagnosed with cancer more than two years ago, 45-year-old Irfon Williams, pictured, has become the face of the fight against the disease in North Wales, launching the #TeamIrfon campaign in May 2014 to support patients on Ysbyty Gwynedd's Alaw Unit.

After being told he was in remission in December, Irfon shared the devastating news this week that cancer had returned to his liver.

He was due to undergo major surgery in Liverpool yesterday to have the tumour removed.

Originally aiming to raise PS20,000, his campaign has now reached more than PS115,000 thanks to the efforts of people across North Wales.

The inspirational nursing manager from Bangor said: "I'm so proud of the difference the campaign has made for other people living with cancer across North West Wales. I'd like to thank every single person who has contributed to the campaign so far and helped raise such an amazing amount for the Alaw Unit."
