Teacher guilty of stroking girl, 15.

A TEACHER has been found guilty of rubbing a 15-year-old girl's thigh as she dozed on a public bus.

Maxwell Nyakutya, 34, could now be banned from teaching in Scotland.

The science teacher, from Aberdeen, sat next to the girl on a bus to Dundee last September. He was on his way to a church meeting.

The teenager fell asleep but woke up when she felt her thigh being rubbed up to 10 times. She found Nyakutya stroking her.

The girl told him: "Get off my body."

Dundee Sheriff Court was told Nyakutya replied: "Sorry, I was trying to wake you to explain that my hand had accidentally fallen on your leg."

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry rejected the teacher's claims that he also fell asleep - and woke up to find his hand on her leg.

He told Nyakutya yesterday: "You continue to deny this offence, which had a significant sexual aspect to it.

"You are a man of a certain age, who took advantage of a young girl who was asleep.

"I considered a custodial sentence but I believe that you should work with probation workers for some time so that the public is protected."

Nyakutya got two years' probation and was put on the sex offenders' register for five years after being found guilty of lewd and libidinous behaviour.

A General Teaching Council for Scotland spokesman said: "We will now proceed with our investigation."
