Teacher first to complete training; EDUCATION.

Byline: Gareth Evans

A TEACHER has become one of the first in the country to complete a groundbreaking training module.

Mike Chapman, who works at Oakfield Primary School in Cardiff, took part in an extended Chartered Teacher Pilot under the General Teaching Council for Wales (GTCW).

The programme is being developed to give experienced teachers in the middle of their careers the chance to receive professional recognition and help raise standards in Wales.

Mr Chapman, from Cowbridge, has been teaching for 14 years and was involved in the first Chartered Teacher module in 2007.

Mr Chapman said: "This sort of advanced level training for people who have been teaching for years is very helpful because it's not available anywhere else. It was both academically testing and very enjoyable."
