Tax cheats out to feel shame but they won't.

The selfishness of so many people as brought to light in the auditor-general's report on Friday seems to know no bounds.

Chrystalla Georghadji has "supplied the Inland Revenue Department with a list of doctors and lawyers whose lifestyles cannot be justified by their tax details".

Reading the list of incidents involving these scumbags, registering expensive properties and filing little or no tax returns, is not only a legal but an ethical crime.

The Hippocratic Oath states that a doctor 'should do no harm'. Well reading about how they cheat the system can only serve to make the rest of us sick to our stomachs.

Being a doctor or a lawyer is supposed to be 'a vocation' that one enters to help others, not a means to line their pockets by charging patients and clients an arm and a leg for a basic human right -- the right to actually not die because you don't have enough money to live.

Consumer figures released the other day showed 84 per cent reporting that they shop less than they used to and 14 per cent saying that their shopping habits haven't changed. We now know who the 14 per cent are.

The Cyprus Mail, carried another article on in the same issue reporting on the Paphos Hearts of Gold Award, which were handed out to a woman and a little girl for their tireless work in helping the needy.

That an eight-year old child has put these unnamed rip-off doctors and lawyers to shame should be an embarrassment to them but of course it won't be.
