SIMI VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 1997--Tandberg Data Inc. announced the addition of Wyle Electronics to its roster of authorized Industrial Distributors today.

The timing of the announcement coincides with Tandberg Data's recent introduction of its new Multichannel Linear Recording (MLR) technology, the next generation in very high capacity and performance tape drives.

"We're excited about teaming up with the Wyle organization," said Richard Severa, vice president of marketing for Tandberg Data. "Wyle has been at the forefront of industrial data storage distribution, introducing high end mass storage products into industrial OEMs and system integrators. The combination of Tandberg's new MLR technology drives with the expected growth in the 10+GB market segment makes Wyle and Tandberg a good fit."

According to Josh Napua, Wyle's senior vice president of computer products marketing: "The addition of Tandberg Data further compliments our ability to provide our customers with a full spectrum of data storage solutions. Tandberg is the dominant supplier of high capacity quarter-inch tape drives with a greater than 80 percent share in this segment for the past few years."

MLR1 Tape Storage Solution Leads A New Generation Of Tape Drives

The Tandberg MLR1 Tape Storage Solution is the company's new 26GB capacity data storage system which utilizes Tandberg Data's new MLR technology to achieve unprecedented data capacity levels and transfer rates on quarter-inch tape drives.

Tandberg Data's MLR1 is well suited to meet the increasing storage requirements found in higher-end PC server environments and workstations that are running under NetWare, UNIX, and Windows NT. This new tape drive is at the forefront of a new generation of tape drives that can be used for more than backup applications, including data storage archiving and near-line storage--such as off-loading overburdened hard disks.
