Takings up for Comet; In association with Chadwick Lawrence.

Byline: HENRYK ZIENTEK

ELECTRICALS chain Comet delivered a slender sales rise today following strong demand for laptops and flat-screen televisions.

The chain, which is part of European retail group Kesa, lifted like-for-like sales by 0.7% in the two months to January 8.

The performance was slightly better than expected in the City. There was also a 2.2%rise in same-store sales for continental business Darty.

Chief executive Jean-Noel Labroue said: "Market conditions for our important peak trading period were difficult, particularly in the UK.

"However all our businesses delivered revenue growth with sales led by the continued high demand for flat screen televisions and laptops while sales of large white goods remained weak."
