Taking a chance on affordable housing.

Byline: Susan Nest

WESTBORO - The Westborough Housing Partnership will be conducting a lottery for a single-family home on Sept. 25.

"This is a great opportunity for income-eligible families in the region to buy an affordable home in Westboro," said Kristina Allen, of the Westborough Housing Partnership Committee.

The three-bedroom home, at 11 Indian Pond Road, is priced at $184,308 and is available immediately.

The housing lottery is open to families who qualify under the following maximum income limits: one-person, $43,050; two-persons, $49,200; three-persons, $55,350; four-persons, $61,500; five-persons, $66,400; and six-persons, $71,350.

Applicants should be first-time homeowners, or those who have not owned a home within the preceding three years.

"A down payment of at least 3 percent" is required, said Gary Sanginario, of the Housing Partnership Committee.

The lottery is slated for Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Forbes Municipal Building auditorium.

"Our job as a committee is to run the lottery and seek out potential buyers," Sanginario said.

Based on the lottery drawing, a buyer will be chosen for 11 Indian Pond Road, and all other qualified applicants will be given a priority number on a "ready buyer" list for future affordable home resales.

Sanginario said it was hard to predict when another affordable home might become available. He said there are potential opportunities for both new units and resales.

Details about the lottery process are included in the application packet.

Those interested in receiving a lottery application should pick up a Housing Lottery Packet at the town clerk's office, 34 West Main St., or call Gary Sanginario at (508) 366-1061.

Sanginario said the Housing Partnership had received a number of inquiries about the lottery.

An Affordable Housing Lottery information session will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, in Room 24, of the Forbes Municipal Building, 45 West Main St.

For more information, or to download the Housing Lottery Packet visit the Westborough Housing Partnership under "Boards and Commissions," on the town of Westboro's Web site at www.town.westborough.ma.us.

A completed application for this housing lottery must be mailed by Sept. 9, to Gary Sanginario, 95A Turnpike Road, Westboro, MA 01581.
