Take a magical boat ride into heart of Black Country at first Festival of Light.

DUDLEY Canal Tunnel and Limestone Mines are inviting visitors to join them on Saturday November 5 to celebrate with a free 30-minute boat trip at their first-ever Festival of Light, supported by the Celebrate programme of the Big Lottery Fund.

Visitors will be able to journey underground to discover the Dudley caverns illuminated like never before to celebrate the Black Country's unique industrial heritage. Music and light will combine to create a magical atmosphere in the tunnels and mines on this very special boat trip.

"We are very excited to be holding our first ever Festival of Light with thanks to the Big Lottery Fund," says Sarah Fellows, Heritage Activities Officer. "We're really looking forward to welcoming people from the local community to celebrate with us on a magical illuminated boat trip."

There is no booking necessary for the Festival of Light - visitors will be allocated seats on the boats on a first come, first served basis on the day.

"The Festival of Light theme is one that we hope will appeal to everyone and our underground caverns are a perfect location to wonder at spectacular light displays," says Sarah.

"Whether you've been on our boat trips before or not, there will be something new to discover underground here."

The Festival of Light has been made possible through a PS6,100 grant from the Big Lottery Fund through their Celebrate! programme, which is designed to bring people together in a local community to celebrate something meaningful to them.

Boats depart every half hour from 10.30am-3pm. For more information see Dudley Canal Trust's website www.dudleycanaltrust.org.uk or call 0121 557 6265.
