Tajikistan, UN discuss cooperation in security, sustainable development.

Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Mr. Liu Zhenmin to discuss cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).

They also touched upon outcome of the high-level international conference on International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028" held on 20-22 June 2018, Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The parties also exchanged views on the global water agenda and timely implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDGs related to water and sanitation.

Additionally, Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the First Under-Secretary-General of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Mr. Vladimir Voronkov.

The parties discussed the outcomes of the the International Conference "Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism" held on 3-4 May 2018, Dushanbe, Tajikistan and the United Nations high-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member-States held on 28-29 June 2018, New York.

The parties also discussed the issues of the regional security, the strengthening of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN counter-terrorism structures, as well as the prospects of joint actions in this area.

Both meetings took place on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept 21.
