Taiwan's leading machinery-tool firms double sales in first 3 qtrs.
Taipei, Oct. 14, 2010 (CENS) -- Taiwan's leading machine-tool firms, including Awea Mechantronic Co., Goodway Machine Corp., Hiwin Technologies Corp., Kao Fong Machinery Co., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co. and Taiwan Takisawa Technology Co., saw first-three-quarter sales double year-on-year.
The six makers attribute the robust sales growth to the strong recovery of the machinery industry worldwide and order-switching effect amid the appreciating Japanese yen against the greenback.
C.C. Wang, president of the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), says these leading machine-tool manufacturers are busy filling the orders received over the past several months, and will be busy with orders throughout this year.
Despite the growth in orders, these export-oriented machine-tool firms are beginning to feel pinched by the continually rising local currency against the greenback.
Focused on the production of key components for machine tools such as linear-motion devices, Hiwin posted NT$78.5 billion in sales in September, for an all-time high, with cumulative sales of NT$5.545 billion in the first nine months, up a whopping 156.67% year-on-year.
Taiwan Takisawa registered NT$939 million in cumulative sales so far this year, up 203.8% from a year earlier. Tongtai posted NT$5.052 billion in sales in the first three quarters, up 188% year-on-year. Goodway saw cumulative sales amount to NT$1.349 billion in the first three quarters, up 142.82%. Awea scored NT$1.905 billion in sales in the first three quarters, for a 107.6% year-on-year growth.
According to statistics compiled by the TAMI, Taiwan exported US$12.031 billion of machinery in the first three quarters, up 54.4% year-on-year.
