Tactics the biggest danger for super Songbird.

Preview USA 1am Sunday Summertime Oaks G2 Santa Anita, 1m1/2f dirt, 3yo BRILLIANT filly Songbird, forced to miss the Kentucky Oaks when she spiked a fever, bids to extend her unbeaten streak to eight tonight when she returns after short layoff at Santa Anita.

Considered by many the most talented three-year-old of either sex in the States, Songbird is sure to start a heavy favourite against six rivals in the $200,000 contest, in which she will be ridden by regular partner Mike Smith.

But although she towers over her rivals in form terms, this may not be quite as straightforward as it seems as rival trainer Phil D'Amato, who leads the Santa Anita standings, attempts to throw a spanner in the works with three runners - two of whom, Coppa and Bellamentary, habitually race on the lead, where Songbird likes to do her running.

Songbird's trainer Jerry Hollendorfer tried her behind horses in her final workout in a bid to prepare her for any fun and games from the D'Amato triumvirate.

Tonight's most prestigious US race is the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap (2.39am Sunday) at Churchill Downs, where Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Effinex looks favoured by the weights.
