Table 9: known offenders, known offender's race, 2012.

The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program's Hate Crime Statistics Program.

General comment

This table presents the number of known hate crime offenders distributed by the known offender's race.

Methodology

The data used in creating this table were from all law enforcement agencies submitting one or more hate crime incidents for at least 1 month of the calendar year. The published data, therefore, do not necessarily represent reports from each participating agency for all 12 months (or 4 quarters) of the calendar year.

(1) The term known offender does not imply that the identity of the
suspect is known, but only that an attribute of the suspect has been
identified, which distinguishes him/her from an unknown offender.

(2) The term multiple races, group is used to describe a group of
offenders of varying races.
