Tabby Darcy goes for a spin.

A TABBY cat has survived a 150-mile journey stuck in a car engine compartment after trying to avoid the rain.

Darcy is thought to have hidden in the Mercedes Benz and become stuck under the hood, the RSPCA said. The owner of the car then did a round trip from Cannock to Manchester and discovered an engine warning light flashing on their dashboard after the trip on August 1. Staff at the Fix Auto in Crossfield Industrial Estate, Lichfield, couldn't spot any signs of engine trouble but after taking it for a test drive, they noticed a burning smell.

They opened the bonnet and found fur wrapped around the alternator, and then two eyes staring up at them.

The RSPCA were then called to help rescue the four-year-old cat.
