TYLENOL BRAND ANNOUNCES $600,000 NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
TO HELP EDUCATE TOMORROW'S LEADERS TODAY
FORT WASHINGTON, Penn., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third consecutive year, McNeil Consumer Products Company, the maker of Tylenol(R) Brand products, will allocate $600,000 in college scholarships to assist 510 student leaders nationwide who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills in community, academic and athletic activities. More than 35,000 retailers across the country are participating in the program, and beginning Sept. 15, applications will be available through displays of Tylenol and Children's Tylenol(R) brands and separate dispensits at participating local retail outlets. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 15; winners will be notified by mail, and announced in March 1993.
The 1992 Tylenol Brand Scholarship Program will award $10,000 merit scholarships to 10 students and $1,000 merit scholarships to 500 students nationally who have applied to or are enrolled in two- or four- year colleges or vocational schools for the fall of 1993. Scholarships will be awarded by state, based on college student populations within each state. (A state-by-state allotment is attached.)
"The Tylenol Brand Scholarship program represents our ongoing, long- term commitment to leadership, education and students across the country who are dedicated to making a difference in their local communities," said James T. Lenehan, McNeil president.
"We are keenly aware of how rising college costs impact a family financially," continued Lenehan. "The inability of federal aid to keep pace with the increasing number of students applying for financial aid is forcing a large percentage of students attend a college based on cost, not criteria. Our goal is to work with our retail partners to help ensure that financial disabilities don't prevent future leaders from attending their first choice college," he added.
The Tylenol Brand Scholarship is unique in that it is based on students' leadership contributions in community, academic and athletic activities, with no bias for grade point average, financial need, racial/ethnic background, career goals or field of study.
In the past two years, the maker of Tylenol has contributed $1,100,000 in college scholarships enabling 1,010 students to pursue careers in the sciences, computers, liberal arts and economics.
The Tylenol Brand Scholarship Fund is supported by a major nationwide consumer product promotion, which includes a coupon redemption program and a national television advertising campaign.
Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA) -- a national, nonprofit student-aid service organization in St. Peter, Minn. -- manages the program and is responsible for screening and evaluating all program applications and selecting the scholarship winners.
Employees of McNeil Consumer Products Company; Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc.; their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and the families of each are not eligible to participate in the scholarship program.
