 TYCO'S SIMPLEX UNIT RECEIVES ORDERS FOR
 FIBER OPTIC CABLE FROM AT&T
 EXETER, N.H., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:TYC) announced today that its Simplex Wire & Cable Company subsidiary has been awarded a contract by AT&T Submarine Systems, Inc. to manufacture Transatlantic Telecommunications Cable Number 10 (TAT-10), a 7,600 kilometer undersea fiber optic cable system. This is the largest contract that Simplex has received in its 150 year history. Scheduled for installation in 1992 this will be the first ever direct undersea link between the United States and Germany.
 Simplex also received a contract from AT&T to provide a 175 kilometer system to be deployed in three locations in British Columbia: Qualicum Beach to Lacarand Beach; Chemanius to Lulu Island and across Cameron Lake.
 These contracts bring Simplex' order backlog to its highest ever level of over 22,000 kilometers. Among the systems Simplex is scheduled to produce are TPC-4, which will link the U.S. to Japan; HAW-5 to be installed between Hawaii and the U.S. Mainland; and PACRIM EAST which will connect New Zealand to Hawaii.
