 TWO VICE PRESIDENTS APPOINTED AT MERVYN'S
 HAYWARD, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Mervyn's announced the

appointment today of Mary Kwan as divisional vice president for Children's World and Vincent Franco as divisional vice president for Home World.
 Kwan, 39, was promoted from divisional merchandising manager for infants and toddlers. Franco, 47, was promoted from divisional merchandising manager of domestics/decorative home.
 Kwan joined Mervyn's in 1983 as a unit control analyst for cosmetics and fragrance. A native of Hong Kong, she is a University of San Francisco graduate.
 Franco joined Mervyn's in August 1991 after serving as merchandising vice president and divisional merchandising manager for home textiles and shop-at-home at Burdine's. He is a native of Long Island and graduated from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
 Three current Mervyn's vice presidents will become vice presidents/general merchandise managers under a reorganization effective Sept. 1 calling for creation of five customer-focused "Worlds";
 -- Men's
 -- Women's I (Sportswear and Accessories)
 -- Women's II (Footwear, Jewelry and Intimate Apparel)
 -- Home
 -- Children's.
 Dennis Garro will become vice president/general merchandise manager for Men's, Children's and Home Worlds; Ginny Harris will become vice president/general merchandise manager for Women's World I and John Irvin will become vice president/general merchandise manager for Women's World II.
 Each "World" will be a self-contained business unit that will include sales promotion, merchandising, merchandise presentation and planning. The concept is intended to better meet the needs of Mervyn's customers by focusing on customer needs more closely and reacting more quickly to those needs.
 "The 'Worlds' structure will greatly strengthen merchandising development at Mervyn's and create an even greater focus on the customer," said Kenneth A. Macke, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Dayton Hudson Corporation (NYSE: DH), Mervyn's parent company.
 "Now, more than ever, Mervyn's will be a store that not only meets our customers' needs, but meets them quickly," said Joe Vesce, Mervyn's president and chief executive officer. "Our new 'Worlds' will enhance our ability to capitalize on market trends and deliver what our customer wants."
 With 255 stores in 15 states, Mervyn's is a moderately priced department store specializing in casual activewear for the entire family. Mervyn's, a division of Dayton Hudson, had sales in 1991 topping $4.1 billion.
