TWO STABBED IN CITY KNIFE FIGHT; Pair found with leg, head and back wounds.

TWO men were hurt after a knife fight on wasteground in south Liverpool.

Police were called to a convenience store in Lodge Lane, Toxteth, at around 9.40am yesterday morning where they found a man with stab wounds to his leg and a head injury.

Officers then found a second man in Tagus Street with stab wounds to his back.

The men were believed to have been hurt during a figrht on nearby wasteland, before one of them went in to the Green Mountain Foodstore and raised the alarm.

The men were taken to hospital, and their conditions werre described as noncritical. Last night, a witness said both men had weapons.

He said: "One had a hammer and the other had a large knife."

Detectives were today continuing their investigations, including house-to-house enquiries and CCTV from the area was being located and reviewed.

Patrols were also stepped up to reassure the local community.

Det Insp Lee Schofield said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage, although we currently believe the two men may have been involved in some form of altercation between themselves on land close to Tagus Street.

"This would appear to be an isolated incident and we are now carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

"We think a number of people may have witnessed what happened and The Green | |the corner of have vital information which could help with our investigation.

"I would appeal to those people, or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, at around 9.30am, to get in touch with us."
