TWO NEW DIRECTORS ELECTED TO SANTA FE PACIFIC BOARD

 SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Bill M. Lindig, president and chief operating officer of SYSCO Corp., Houston, and Edwin P. Hoffman, president and chief operating officer of Household International, Prospect Heights, Ill., were elected to Santa Fe Pacific Corp.'s (NYSE: SFX) board of directors at the Jan. 26 board meeting, effective Feb. 1, 1993, the company announces today.
 Lindig, 56, has served as SYSCO Corp.'s president and chief operating officer since November 1985. SYSCO is the largest marketer and distributer of foodservice products in America. Since its formation in 1969, SYSCO's annual sales have grown from approximately $115 million to over $9 billion. The company provides products and services to 230,000 restaurants, lodging establishments, health care and educational institutions and other foodservice customers from a nationwide network of distribution facilities.
 Lindig began his career in the foodservice industry in 1959 after attending the University of Texas at Austin. He joined SYSCO in 1970. He has been a member of SYSCO's board of directors since 1983. He and his wife, Bobetta, reside in Houston and have two grown sons.
 Hoffman, 50, joined Household International as president and chief operating officer on Jan. 1, 1988. He was elected to Household's board of directors on Jan. 12, 1988. Household International provides finance and banking services and consumer insurance products. Its assets exceed $31 billion.
 Household International recently announced that Hoffman will be elected chief executive officer at its May annual meeting. From 1969 through 1987, he held various international management positions at Citibank/Citicorp, Chicago, including group executive-Latin America from 1984 to December 1987. He holds board directorships at International Multifoods, MasterCard International, Scotsman Industries and Schwitzer, Inc. He earned a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics in 1968 and an M.B.A. in 1966, both from Yale University. In 1964, he earned a B.S. from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa. He and his wife, Sandra, and their three children reside in Lake Forest, Ill.
