TWO MAJOR CHINESE ORGANIZATIONS DEPLOY NORTEL NETWORKS.
Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5200 Multiservice Platform, which has been deployed by both institutes, is at the heart of the metro optical network linking the Shanghai Stock Exchange's three major business sites -- the Securities Exchange Building, the Waigaoqiao Communications Company and the Registration Company. Designed for high reliability, flexibility and scalability with dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology, the new optical backbone will fully utilize existing fibre resources, and drive reductions in switch-over time on fault, and improvements in the Shanghai Stock Exchange's risk management capacity.
Nortel Networks has also deployed two OPTera Metro 5200 lines for the Statistics Administration of China. These lines connect the administration's two local area network sites in Beijing to reliably and rapidly distribute the enormous flow of statistics data.
"These two deployments further demonstrate Nortel Networks leadership position in building advanced metro networks in China," said Robert Mao, president and chief executive officer, Nortel Networks China. "Nortel Networks hopes to continue its close relationship with a wide range of industries in China to deploy advanced and reliable solutions and provide an essential foundation for growth of China's information industry."
Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5200 provides customers with a 10 gigabits-per-second capable metro optical platform designed to make metro networks more efficient and easier to deploy while enabling delivery of high-bandwidth services in metropolitan areas. A full carrier-class product, OPTera Metro 5200 offers carriers and enterprises a variety of benefits, including network integration and improved efficiency; strong reliability; fast time-to-market; and a simplified, open network architecture.
OPTera Metro 5200 is part of Nortel Networks complete, flexible Metro Optical portfolio of DWDM, next generation synchronous optical network (SONET), and Optical Ethernet products, currently deployed in more than 1,000 customer networks in 45 countries.
Nortel Networks ranked #1 in the global metro DWDM market in the fourth quarter of 2001, according to the Dell'Oro Group. Nortel Networks also ranked #1 in next generation SONET with more than a 48 percent share for the first three quarters of 2001, according to the Yankee Group.
