TWO GIANTS OF THE TRADE SHOW INDUSTRY UNITE TO LAUNCH COMDEX/COMEXPO MEXICO; THREE SHOWS IN ONE SCHEDULED FOR MEXICO CITY, MARCH 8-11, 1994

 NEWTON, Mass., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Reed Exhibition Companies, with world headquarters based in Newton, the world's largest trade show producer and Interface Group-Nevada Inc. of Las Vegas and Needham, Mass., producers of COMDEX, the largest computer and communications events in the world, have agreed to co-organize what would be the leading information technology event in Mexico.
 Three shows under the COMDEX/COMEXPO Mexico umbrella will include:
 -- COMEXPO for computer users and distribution professionals;
 -- COMEXPO Telecom for telecommunications professionals; and
 -- COMEXPO OEM/Maquiladoras for hi-tech sourcing, manufacturing and
 distribution.
 "COMDEX/COMEXPO Mexico will build on the successes of the COMEXPO events recently acquired by Reed," explained Philip P. Ullo, president and chief operating officer of Reed Exhibition Companies. He stated, "By building discreet events held concurrently in Mexico City and marketing them worldwide, both organizations will bring international attention to the tremendous business opportunities for the information industry in Mexico."
 Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman of the board of The Interface Group, stated, "We're very excited about COMDEX/COMEXPO Mexico and the potential such an event offers to our COMDEX customers worldwide. Our research on the Mexican market and the likelihood of NAFTA approval was leading us to do business there one way or another. Combining strengths of our company with Reed was the best solution on behalf of our customers."
 "Development is the key word in the Mexican market," said Ullo. He noted, "Our acquisition of the exhibition activities of Fapezal Communicacion, the leading trade show producer in Mexico, included the very successful COMEXPO and COMEXPO Telecommunications events. What we then needed was a way to put Mexico on the international map with respect to information technology.
 "Coincidentally, COMDEX producers were investigating opportunities in Mexico. We could both see the tremendous advantages of bringing the COMDEX business show philosophy to the COMEXPO events."
 Adelson stated, "COMDEX/COMEXPO Mexico will be very much a COMDEX show with accommodation for the 'informatics' needs of a developing country. As with our very successful COMDEX/Sucesu-SP event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and COMDEX/Canada in Toronto, telecommunications and computer technology is addressed at the same event. Our concept of holding three distinct events under the COMDEX/COMEXPO Mexico umbrella will allow us to develop the existing COMEXPO events as technology or applications 'showcases' specific to the needs of exhibiting companies across the spectrum of information technology."
 Research by the U.S. Department of Commerce indicates the Mexican market for computer products currently exceeds US-$2 billion annually; and various sectors, such as desktop computers and software, are growing at 20 percent or more. Privatization of the telephone company, TELMEX, has also fueled a US-$1 billion market for switching systems, software, phone and fax machines as well as expanded opportunities to market cellular equipment and multi-national communications services.
