TWO EXECUTIVES PROMOTED AT CARL KARCHER ENTERPRISES
ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Two executives at Carl

Karcher Enterprises Inc. (CKE) (NASDAQ: CARL) have earned promotions which expand their roles as vice presidents and restructure the company's operations, franchising and international development departments.
Rory J. Murphy, 43, has been named vice president, restaurant operations with responsibility for the operation of all company and franchised Carl's Jr. Restaurants. He directs a staff of 100 people.
Murphy has held a number of positions in operations at CKE. His most recent position was vice president, franchising, which he held since August 1990. He began his CKE career 12 years ago after seven years as a restaurant owner/operator. He advanced quickly to manager, then to district manager. Five years ago, he was promoted to director of operations for 63 restaurants in the Los Angeles area. He was named the company's regional director of the year in May 1990, shortly before earning a promotion to vice president.
Steve Kishi, 41, has been named vice president, international and franchise development. Kishi, who most recently was vice president, international development, will be responsible for expanding the Carl's Jr. system both internationally and domestically through licensing and franchising.
Kishi's CKE career began in 1980 as manager of internal audit. In 1983, he was promoted to director, corporate taxes and auditing and then earned a promotion to director, international development in June 1988. He established the organization and structure of the company's international development department and earned a promotion to vice president in March 1990. Under his direction, the company's international development began in Japan with a licensee who now has eight restaurants in operation. This year, the first restaurant in Mexico opened in Monterrey. Additional locations are opening soon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Monterrey, Mexico; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Domestically, the Carl's Jr. system is steadily expanding, with a goal of increasing franchise operations to 40 percent of the system total in the next four years.
"This change in executive-level responsibilities is part of our strategic plan," President and Chief Operating Officer Donald F. Karcher said. "We are confident that Rory's strength in operations management and Steve's development skills will benefit the Carl's Jr. system for many years to come."
A total of 610 Carl's Jr. Restaurants are located in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Japan and Mexico. The restaurants are owned, operated, franchised or licensed by Anaheim-based Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc., a company employing approximately 16,000 people.
