TWO BIG BOY RESTAURANTS OFFER FREE THANKSGIVING DINNER TO THE NEEDY
WARREN, Mich., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The employees of two Elias Brothers Big Boy Restaurants in the Renaissance Center (Detroit) and at 20 S. Telegraph (at Huron, Pontiac) are giving food, time and their day off to help the area's needy.
Both stores' employees volunteered to donate the Thanksgiving turkeys they received from Elias Brothers to the needy. They have also volunteered to go in to work Thanksgiving (their day off), cook the turkeys, prepare other side dishes, then serve the meals they've prepared to a total of 300 needy people whose names were provided by local social service agencies.
The Renaissance Center Big Boy employees will prepare and serve meals from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to 150 invited guests from the Detroit Rescue Mission. Transportation is being provided by Etteruael Charter Bus and Travel in Southfield.
The Pontiac Big Boy employees will serve their meals from 1-4 p.m. to 150 people whose names were provided by Lighthouse (Emergency Services Resource Center) and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, both in Pontiac.
The Renaissance Center Big Boy restaurant is managed by Damian Gundick, and can be reached at 313-259-0606. Shirley Hammond manages the Pontiac Big Boy restaurant, and can be reached at 313-681-2050.
Employees from five other company-owned Big Boy restaurants (two Warren stores and one each in Harper Woods, Mount Clemens and Royal Oak) are also chipping in to help prepare and serve food at the Ren Cen Big Boy in addition to collecting clothing and bedding to give to the Rescue Mission guests during dinner.
Managers Gundick and Hammond say they and their employees decided to volunteer their assistance because both stores are located in areas where they see first-hand the challenges in the neighborhood and they decided to help meet the needs of the homeless and disadvantaged.
"The community supports our restaurant on a daily basis. For that reason we gladly do whatever we can to assist the community in turn," said Gundick.
Both restaurants will serve turkey and dressing, salad, potatoes, bread, pumpkin pie, and beverages. For more information, contact Tony Michaels, vice president of marketing, Elias Brother Big Boy Restaurants, Inc. (Warren), 313-755-8124.
