A NEW mother died less than 24 hours after giving birth to twin girls.

Janet Hopson, 39, suffered high blood pressure after an emergency caesarean section. Amelia and Alyssa were born healthy but seven hours later their mother's health deteriorated, an inquest at Oldham heard. Janet was taken back to theatre at Royal Oldham Hospital, where unexplained bleeding was discovered in her abdomen.

She died hours later on March 2, 2007. Coroner Simon Nelson recorded a narrative verdict and said a link could not be suggested between the caesarean and Janet's death.
