MONUMENT METRO STATION EVACUATED AFTER POWER SURGE CAUSES SMOKE TO COME FROM STATION Dave Falla: "The metro system has been around for about 35 years now I remember getting it to college in Newcastle 1981 and never has there been more problems, delays, cancelled trains since this last company took over, its a bloody disgrace that people can't rely on public transport and we wonder why cities are clogged up by cars."

Sue Morton: "You would think the end of civilization had arrived, it's not the fault of Metro, it was a power surge, not old cabs, old lines or old anything else. All the buses going south were delayed and then 4 turn up, had to wait longer than usual but who cares, got home in the end."

Stephen McLean: "A power surge, a voltage spike, there should be some form of protection. Where was the smoke seen a transformer gone down or a bad electrical cable joint."

Dawn Hargreaves Senior: "My friend's husband worked driving the metro and they try their best to do their jobs to get the public to where they are going give them a chance."

Melanie Weir: "I was on the metro with my 11 month old son that broke down it wasn't nice at all having to walk through that tunnel but the fire brigade were excellent each and everyone of them
