TWA REPORTS STRONG CARGO GROWTH

 TWA REPORTS STRONG CARGO GROWTH
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- TWA today announced that

it is pleased with its cargo performance in the first quarter of 1992, according to Hans G. Wolf, TWA's staff vice president/cargo sales.
Referring to data reported by ATA for January and February, Wolf pointed out that TWA exceeded the U.S. scheduled airline industry growth in both mail and freight. While the industry's total domestic cargo, including freight and mail, increased 7.6 percent over January/February of last year, TWA increased its revenue ton mile production by 24 percent. On the international side, scheduled U.S. flag carriers in total reported a 9.7 percent cargo increase, compared to TWA's RTM increase of 28.1 percent.
Wolf continued that for February alone TWA showed the best domestic improvement of all reporting major U.S. carriers, with an RTM gain of 42.8 percent in total cargo vs. February of last year. For international operations, none of the scheduled major carriers showed an improvement better than TWA's gain of 69 percent of revenue ton miles.
"Preliminary numbers for March are excellent," Wolf pointed out with satisfaction, "and we know that we will continue with very strong growth compared to last year." He agreed that the international results are aided by a level of flight operations higher than last year. The domestic improvements in RTMs, however, are the direct result of very high space utilization.
Wolf stated that "the freight forwarder community recognizes the value of our Transatlantic wide-body flights which include a healthy share of B-747 operations. Availability of big airplanes, and realistic pricing both East and Westbound have created a customer preference in favor of TWA, in both directions across the Atlantic."
TWA anticipates that the strong cargo performance will continue through 1992.
