TWA CONFIRMS PRELIMINARY MERGER TALKS WITH CONTINENTAL AIRLINES
MT. KISCO, N.Y., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- TWA confirmed today that at a luncheon meeting yesterday Carl C. Icahn and Robert Ferguson held preliminary discussions relative to a possible merger of TWA and Continental Airlines.
Icahn stated that while such a merger might be a good fit, talks were very preliminary and there is no way to predict the outcome at this point.
He also stated that such an arrangement would need outside capital some of which he might be willing to contribute from his own sources.
Icahn stressed that any arrangement with Continental would in no way affect the agreement TWA has made with their creditors for the financial restructuring which is to take place in early 1992.
