TWA ANNOUNCES NEW MORNING FLIGHTS FROM JFK,
VIRTUAL SHUTTLE SERVICE TO WASHINGTON, BOSTON
/ADVANCE/MT. KISCO, N.Y., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Carl C. Icahn, chairman and CEO of Trans World Airlines, Inc. (TWA), announced today that the first phase of the airline's plan for a domestic hub at New York's JFK Airport will take effect on Monday, March 2, with the addition of new morning flights to six major U.S. cities, including Washington, D.C. and Boston.
The additional flights from JFK to Washington and to Boston, combined with existing Trans World Express flights, add up to virtual shuttle service to these cities. In all, TWA will offer 13 flights a day from JFK to Washington, and 11 flights a day from JFK to Boston.
"As promised, the TWA-JFK Connection is becoming a reality," Icahn said. "In addition to serving as TWA's traditional international gateway, JFK will now serve JFK's domestic passengers, including business flyers, as never before. This in another example of TWA changing the business of business travel by offering business flyers important additional options and dramatic savings."
The additional JFK flights will provide round-trip, same-day service to and from Chicago; Atlanta; New Orleans; Pittsburgh; Washington, D.C., and Boston.
In keeping with TWA's drive to expand its share of the business- flyer market, the airline is introducing TWA-JFK Connection flights with special, super-low fares, which will be available for ticketing and travel through March 21, 1992.
The special TWA fares are listed below, along with the lowest one- way fares of TWA's competitors.
TWA Sale Fare One-Way Other Airlines
 JFK-Chicago $ 99 $427
 JFK-Atlanta $ 99 $429
 JFK-New Orleans $149 $491
 JFK-Pittsburgh $ 49 $142
 JFK-Washington $ 49 $ 89
 JFK-Boston $ 49 $ 89
The special sale fares are unrestricted, and a First Class upgrade may be purchased for $50. Fares to Chicago, Atlanta, and New Orleans are even lower when purchased on a round-trip basis; but a Saturday night stay-over is required.
Trans World Express has also expanded service out of JFK with three daily flights each to Albany and Providence, R.I., with introductory one-way fares of $49.
TWA's Senior Vice President for Marketing, Craig Pavlus, and Vice President for Advertising and Consumer Marketing, Sheldon J. Kravitz, briefed reporters about the TWA-JFK Connection at a news conference that was held today on Long Island. The two executives emphasized the benefits of the expanded service to passengers from the New York City metropolitan area, including the more than 7.3 million residents of Long Island.
