TVA RESOURCE GROUP RESTRUCTURED; TRAINING PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- TVA Resource Group President Norman Zigrossi said today that the year-long restructuring of the agency's federally funded programs to reduce management layers, cut overhead, and put more dollars into Valley communities has been completed without loss of jobs.
TVA Chairman Craven Crowell praised Zigrossi for bringing the restructuring effort to a conclusion. "This au?ncement reinforces our commitment to putting employees first at TVA."
Zigrossi said he had established a new training program to avoid layoffs because "these employees are valuable assets, and their knowledge and experience are irreplaceable. This program will allow us to retain that pool of talent and utilize it to fill gaps created by normal attrition." Approximately 50 employees are expected to enter the retraining program.
"I believe this group is now well-positioned to help the region solve its 21st Century problems and contribute to the agency's goals of putting employees first and achieving environmental leadership," Crowell said.
Zigrossi said the group -- TVA's environmental research, land and waterway management, and economic development arm -- has gone from as many as seven levels of management to three. "We've minimized program overlap and concentrated resources in areas where we have unique expertise."
Zigrossi said his group managed to reduce overhead by $5 million to $7.5 million through attrition during the year, voluntary retirements and consolidation of some programs.
