TV3 has pulled the plug on Midweek in a new shake-up of their evening schedule.
And the channel is set to go head-to-head with RTE with the introduction of a new primetime evening show which will kick off next year.
Ballymount studios are following up on acclaimed documentary A Secret Buried: The Mother and Baby Scandal with an investigation on Garth Brooks' cancelled gigs.
And with its new team in place, the station is aiming to churn out more documentaries.
TV3 yesterday announced the introduction of a new documentary unit and current affairs evening show.
Midweek, presented by TV3 news anchor Colette Fitzpatrick and broadcast every Wednesday, will make way for shows produced by the broadcaster's new Public Affairs Documentary Unit.
Separately, a new primetime evening show will start broadcasting next January.
In a statement, TV3 said the new show will feature its news reporters and will be anchored by a "new name".
It added: "A new primetime early evening show will air weeknights from January and add over 127 hours of Irish home produced content to the stations 2015 schedule.
"The new nightly show represents a major commitment by TV3 to cover people and items of interest happening all over Ireland.
"The Midweek team will be subsumed into both the new News and Public Affairs Documentary Unit and TV3's new early evening programme."
The announcements come in advance of the stations autumn launch.
